The movie takes place in the near future. A few years ago, the world suffered a global catastrophe. As a result of natural disasters, as well as raging epidemics, the human population has decreased many times, and all habitable places on Earth have turned into a hot and suffocating desert. A small handful of people grouped together and were able to create a kind of life in this desert, and their leader was a bloodthirsty, cruel and dangerous man named Carnegie. His possessions extend into the area where the city of California used to be.
Once an unfamiliar and taciturn wanderer comes to this deserted city. He only has a bag in which, according to the city dwellers, there is some kind of book. The head of the Carnegie city has long been looking for a certain book that will help him manage people and brainwash the weak, desperate and deprived people. He wants to meet a man who has arrived in the city, whose name is a strange name - Eli. He invites him to stay forever in the city and show his book, but the man refuses. Then Carnegie suggests staying just overnight to rest after a long journey. At night, Carnegie sends his mistress to Eli, a blind woman named Claudia, and then her daughter Solara.
