President Donald Trump's threat of U.S. military action and the cessation of aid to Nigeria over alleged "Christian Genocide” continues to make headlines.

On Truth Social, Trump issued a stark warning, threatening to go "guns-a-blazing" into Nigeria to "wipe out the Islamic Terrorists" and instructing the "Department of War" to prepare.

This followed his re-designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

The Nigerian Presidency, through Bayo Onanuga, countered by highlighting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to the "protracted war" against terror, citing the recent charge given to new Service Chiefs as evidence of proactive efforts.

Tinubu rejected the CPC designation, asserting Nigeria's democratic status and constitutional guarantees of religious freedom.

Omoyele Sowore criticized the rhetoric, warning that foreign military intervention is historically perilous, citing Afghanistan and Iraq, and emphasized the need for domestic, accountable leadership.

A WhatsApp comment argued that Trump's threat was not against Nigerian democracy but a capacity-based warning to conduct a unilateral counter-terrorism strike to eliminate figures like Turji Bello, referencing operations against Osama Bin Laden and Qasem Soleimani.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (under Ibraheem Zakzaky) rejected the "Christian Genocide" narrative, arguing that Nigeria's crisis is "moral and political, not religious," with both faiths suffering equally from violence caused by corruption and elite manipulation, warning against narratives that justify foreign interference.

In a resurfaced trending video, U.S. Congressman Scott Perry escalated the controversy by alleging that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) inadvertently funded the Boko Haram terror group.

The allegations raised questions about Trump’s mission in Nigeria and the ethics of cutting aid or proceeding with a potential $346 million weapons sale to Nigeria.
